Integration of leaf extracts of Azadirachta indica and Calotropis procera with Verticillium chiamydosporium in the control of Meloidogyne javanica and their effects on the activity of the fungus
International Journal of Nematology 18 (1), 21-24
Abstract: Verticillium chlamydosporium was integrated with Azadirachta indica and Calotropis procera leaf extracts and their combined effects on Meloidogyne javanica were studied in pots. Combination of leaf extracts and the fungus improved plant growth over control. The fungus in combination with the leaf extracts significantly reduced galls, egg masses and number of eggs per egg mass. Maximum reductions were recorded in standard 'S' concentrations of extracts (25 g fresh leaves in 75 ml water). Egg parasitism and root and soil colonization by V. chlamydosporium were increased significantly by the applications of 'S/5' and 'S/10' extracts of the test plants. 'S/20' leaf extracts did not have significant effect on the activity of the fungus, while the 'S' dilution caused insignificant reductions in these parameters.
