Integrated approach for management of foliar nematode, Aphelenchoides besseyi infecting tuberose in West Bengal, India
International Journal of Nematology 15 (1), 30-34
Abstract: An experiment with nine treatments and three replications was laid out at Mandouri farm, Nadia, West Bengal, India for testing efficacy of different methods of managing foliar nematode, Aphelenchoides besseyi in tuberose cultivar 'Calcutta single'. The experiment was conducted with different treatments using pre-soaking of bulbs overnight followed by hot water treatment, sprayings and dipping of bulbs in monocrotophos at 500 ppm and soil application of carbofuran supplemented with spraying Nomite (Pongamia oil based formulation) at 5 ml/litre of water. The infestation of A. besseyi in July (peak flowering time) was recorded at 24% to 76% in the treated plots and 62% to 97% in the untreated plots. All treatments were effective in reducing nematode population in tuberose. However, pre-soaking of bulbs for overnight followed by hot water treatment at 50°C for 30 minutes + dipping of bulbs in monocrotophos 36SL in 500 ppm for 6 hours + two sprayings with monocrotophos 36SL at 500 ppm in first, second and third year crop with three sprayings with monocrotophos 36SL at 500 ppm at 15 days interval (T5) was found to be superior in terms of reduction of foliar disease as well as Percent Disease Index (PDI), suppression of nematode population and production of quality flowers. The PDI value in the treated plots was recorded from 2% to 66% whereas in the untreated plot, it ranged from 43% to 74%.
