Abstract: The South American Fruit Fly Anastrepha fraterculus (Wiedemann, 1830) (Diptera: Tephritidae) is one of the most important peach pests (Prunus persica) in Southern Brazil, causing damages of up to 100% of their total production. The objective of this study was to investigate the efficiency of food lures and traps for monitoring A. fraterculus in a commercial peach orchard. Two experiments were undertaken evaluating torula yeast (2,5%) hydrolyzed protein (Nolure^® at 5%) and hydrolyzed protein (Bio Anastrepha^® at 5%) and Anastrepha Lure^® (packed as sachet form) in these two experiments, grape juice at 25% was used as a standard. Traps made with transparent and green plastic bottles of two liters were compared with traditional modified McPhail plastic trap using grape juice at 25% as food lure. Torula yeast (2,5%) was significantly more attractive than grape juice (25%) and hydrolyzed protein (5%) to capture A. fraterculus adults. The Anastrepha lure^® was not efficient for insect capture. The alternative trap models were equivalent to the McPhail model in the capture of the A. fraterculus.
