Hylobius radicis Buchanan, 1935 - (pine root collar weevil)

The weevil is a root feeding pest of pine trees in eastern North America. Females lay eggs into the soil around the root collar. The larvae initially feed on the bark of the pine root collar, later they also bore into the phloem and xylem. In smaller trees, multiple attacks can weaken the trees, to the extend that they break over or die. The life cycle extend over a period of 2 years.
