Hylobitelus xiaoi Zhang, 1997
This weevil is a pest of pine trees in eastern Asia. It attacks mainly the introduced slash pines, Pinus elliottii. It breeds in the bark at the base of the trees and can girdle the trees. During outbreaks, more than 10% of the trees may die. The beetle requires 2 years to complete one generation (see Wen et al., 2004). The adults are around 15 mm long.
