Heilipus Germar, 1824
This genus of weevils contains around 100 species which are found in Central and South America. Several of them breed in the fruits of avocado and soursop causing economic damage. For example, the big avocado seed weevil, Heilipus lauri, is an avocado pest in parts of Mexico. Due to quarantine concerns, it restricts the export of avocado to other countries.
