Gonipterus platensis (Marelli, 1926)

This weevil is a pest of eucalypts, native to Australia. It has been accidentally introduced into New Zealand, South America and southern Europe. The larvae infest mainly young leaves, while the adults feed on the edges of mature leaves, causing scalloped leaf edges. Serious infestations can result in die-back, defoliation and reduced tree growth. G. platensis is very similar in appearance to Gonipterus scutellatus (e.g. Dara et al., 2019).
