Monomorium pharaonis (Linnaeus) - (pharaoh ant)

The ant is a common household pest with a world-wide distribution. In cooler climates it is restricted to indoor occupation. In tropical and subtropical regions, it is also of health concern in environments like hospitals, where it transmits disease agents and can be a source of allergies.

The ant will eat any organic material. If it finds food it will establish a pheromone trails between the nest and the food source. Each colony contains many queens (polygynous) and a network of interconnected nests (polydomous). New colonies can be quickly established. Control relies mainly on insecticide baits.
