Acromyrmex subterraneus (Forel, 1911)

This species of leaf-cutting ants is found in South America where it collects leaves of various plants like eucalypts. Also seeds may be collected. The nests are build underground or are partially subterranean around plant roots. These contain more than one fungus chamber and the mounds have an area of up to 5 m2.
