Eupelmidae (parasitoids)
This family of chalcid parasitoids contains around 900 species and is characterized by the structure of the mesopleuron, gaster and other features. Many species are primary parasitoids of the larval stages of Lepidoptera, Homoptera, Hymenoptera, Coleoptera, Neuroptera and Orthoptera. A number are regarded as important natural enemies of pest insects and these parasitise mainly Coleoptera and Diptera larvae.
