Comparison of three sampling methods for estimating adult stable fly (Diptera: Muscidae) populations
Environmental Entomology 18 (3), 513-520
Abstract: Sampling of adult stable flies, Stomoxys calcitrans (L.), in cattle feedlots was investigated for 3 yr in southeast Nebraska. Three methods of estimating stable fly populations (front leg counts on cattle, a stanchioned-calf technique, and Alsynite fiber glass traps) were compared at three times of day. Time of sampling significantly affected population estimates in 2 of the 3 yr of the study. The correlation between sampling methods was determined for each sampling time and is discussed.
