Introduction and establishment of Olesicampe benefactor Hinz (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae), a parasite of the larch sawfly, Pristiphora erichsonii (Hartig) (Hymenoptera: Tenthredinidae), in Pennsylvania
Environmental Entomology 14 (4), 420-423
Abstract: The ichneumon, Olesicampe benefactor Hinz, was transferred from Minnesota in 1975, in an attempt to suppress the larch sawfly, Pristiphora erichsonii (Hartig) from defoliating Larix spp. Dissections of prepupae indicated that 59% of the hosts were parasitized by 1983 at the initial release site. Additional transfers were made in Pennsylvania in 1980 and 1982 with parasites from the initial site. Head capsules of parasitized prepupae (=5th instar) are significantly smaller (mean = 1.75 ± 0.12 mm) than those from unparasitized prepupae (mean = 2.05 ± 0.07 mm).
