Interactions between Apanteles glomeratus (L.) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) and granulosis virus in Pieris rapae (L.) (Lepidoptera: Pieridae)
Environmental Entomology 10 (1), 65-68
Abstract: Host-parasitoid-pathogen interactions among Pieris rapae (L.), Apanteles glomeratus (L.), and the granulosis virus (GV) of P. rapae were studied using laboratory and field populations. Survival of A. glomeratus in GV-infected P. rapae depended on the time between oviposition by the parasitoid in a larva of P. rapae and ingestion of GV by the larva; parasitoids did not survive in host larvae exposed to GV on or before 4 days after oviposition at 25°C. Survival of A. glomeratus was less in P. rapae in which the GV disease was severe than in lightly infected larvae.
