Het kweken van bladwespen (Hymenoptera: Symphyta)
[The rearing of sawflies (Hymenoptera: Symphyta)]
Entomologische Berichten 69 (3), 101-110
Abstract: Sawflies deserve more attention. Our knowledge about their phytophagous habits is still rather poor, though the free-living larvae of many species can easily be found on trees and herbs. Ways to rear these larvae are presented step by step, starting with collection tips up to the moment adults should emerge, stressing such important features as pupation site preferences and prolonged diapause. The article should also commemorate the great Dutch entomologist Snellen van Vollenhoven (1816-1880) for his numerous valuable contributions on sawfly biology, starting 151 years ago.
