Thripastichus gentilei: A new agent for biological control of the guava thrips in Brazil (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae)
Entomologia Generalis 35 (3), 151-155
Abstract: Anthracnose is an important post-harvest disease on guava and higher levels of fruit infection have been associated to the presence of the guava thrips Liothrips anonae Moulton, 1933 (Thysanoptera: Phlaeothripidae) in Brazil. Here, we report the results of field surveys for parasitoid species associated with L. anonae developed in Viçosa, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Thripastichus gentilei (Del Guercio 1931) (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) was the only parasitoid species emerged from thrips larvae collected in the field. This parasitoid could be an alternative to the chemical control of L. anonae in guava plantations.
