Food selection by Oedaleus senegalensis (Acrididae: Orthoptera) in grassland and millet fields
Entomologia Experimentalis et Applicata 24 (3), 278-286
Abstract: The feeding ecology of Oedaleus senegalensis in African grassland and millet fields was investigated. Grasshoppers were feeding opportunistically in the fields. Laboratory experiments determined the acceptability of the various grass species and suggested that conditioning may be important. Damage to millet fields was recorded and the preferences of the adults between the leaves and the different stages of millet seed head investigated.
