Elatobium abietinum (Walker) - (green spruce aphid)

This aphid is a pest of spruce in Europe and some other regions. It is native to Europe and Norway spruce (Picea abies) is resistant against this pest. However, E. abietinum causes considerable damage to the introduced Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis). In outbreak years it can cause severe defoliation and sometimes death of these spruce trees. The aphid has been also introduced into several regions outside Europe.
