Edwardsiana rosae (Linnaeus, 1758) - (rose leafhopper)
This leafhopper is found in temperate parts of Europe and North America. There are also some records from Asia. Attacks produce white spots on the leaves and heavy infestations can result in premature dropping of the leaves. Adult leafhoppers are slightly yellowish and about 3-4 mm long.
The 1st generation is found on rosaceous plants where the larvae develop on the lower side of the leaves. It then migrates and attacks the leaves of a summer host, e.g. apple or cornel trees. They return in autumn to rose plants and lay eggs on the bark which overwinter. However, some populations live on roses all year round.
