Dasineura tetensi (Rübsaamen, 1892) - (black currant leaf midge)

This midge is a pest of currant and gooseberry (species of the genus Ribes) in temperate parts of Europe and in New Zealand. The larvae attack the shoots and young leaves, causing curly leaf galls on the shoots. Heavy infestations can result in up to 60% reduction in shoots growth and stunting of nursery plants (Piotrowski et al., 2021).

The mite has two to four generations a year and overwinters as larvae within cocoons in the soil. During spring, pupations takes place and the first generation usually develops during flowering of the plants. Populations then build up during the season.
