Dasineura marginemtorquens (Bremi, 1847)

This gall midge is found northern parts of Europe and Asia. It develops on Salix viminalis and populations can reach a stage when the growth of the tree is reduced. The female lays eggs on young developing willow leaves and the larvae induce the formation of galls along the leaf margins. A leaf can contain more than 50 galls. The adult midge is 2-3 mm long and there are typically several generations per year.
