Clostera anastomosis (Linnaeus, 1758) - (poplar tip moth)

This moth breeds on poplar and willow trees in Europe and temperate parts of Asia. It can cause defoliating outbreaks in some countries. There are 1-2 generations per year, depending on the environmental conditions. The caterpillars of the last generation overwinter between leaves spun together.

The adult moths have a wingspan of 3-4 cm and are reddish brown. The legs are densely covered with hairs. The caterpillars are also brownish, yellowish on the sides and darker on the back with two rows of white dorsal dots.
