Cicadulina bipunctata (Melichar) - (maize orange leafhopper)
The leafhopper is a pest of maize in tropical and subtropical parts of Asia and Australia. Feeding by the hoppers on developing maize leaves induces galls, stunted growth and swollen leaf veins. The damage is called maize wallaby ear symptoms. The galls apparently improve performance by the nymphs. The species also feeds on other cereals (e.g. rice) and grasses, where it also can induce gall formation.
