Chrysomphalus dictyospermi (Morgan, 1889) - (palm scale)

This armoured scale insect is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions, as well as in greenhouses in temperate areas. It is polyphagous, infesting fruit crops like olive, citrus, fig, avocado or ornamentals. Infestations can be serious, reducing the the market value of infested fruits and ornamentals.

Up to six generations have been reported per year. Natural enemies are very important for keeping the scale under natural control and several have been deliberately introduced against this species. For example, a number of endoparasitoids from the genus Aphytis have been found effective against C. dictyospermi.
