Cheyletus (predators) Latreille, 1776
This genus contains around 30 species of predatory mites. They are widely distributed and mainly live in nests of vertebrates or grain stores. The genus includes several species that are useful natural enemies of pest mites in grain stores or in houses, like house dust mites.
The genus is characterized, among others, by the morphological structure of the palps. E.g. in females the palpal tarsus has 4 setae, the palpal claw 1-6 basal teeth, the palpal tibia 3 hair-like setae, the palpal genu 2 setae and the palpal femur 3 setae.
