Soluble protein profile variability in four populations of Encarsia citrina (Craw) (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae) obtained by SDS-PAGE technique
Bollettino del Laboratorio di Entomologia Agraria 56, 5-14
Abstract: The variability of total protein profiles obtained by SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) technique was investigated on 4 populations of Encarsia citrina (Craw) compared with 6 other species of parasitoids of the genus Encarsia Förster (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae), developing on different diaspidid host species. Intra and inter-taxa Average Percentage Differences (APD) were assessed from the electrophoregrams and the distance matrix was analyzed by UPGMA cluster analysis. Moreover, RAPD-PCR profiles on the same populations of E. citrina were also obtained using 10 primers 10-mers and the UP-GMA was conducted on the whole set of reliable observed bands.
The results obtained suggest that SDS-PAGE could be considered an interesting tool for easy and rapid characterization and identification of different biotypes of parasitoid Hymenoptera.
