The complete sequence of Ligustrum necrotic ringspot virus, a novel carlavirus
Archives of Virology 153 (2), 393-396
Abstract: A plant of Ligustrum japonicum grown in South Carolina, USA was observed with symptoms of necrotic ringspots and line patterns and was examined for virus infection. The presence of a Carlavirus was demonstrated in the symptomatic plant and in inoculated indicator plants after virus purification and RNA analysis. RNA sequence analysis showed high levels of similarity with potato virus M and some other carlaviruses with which the virus shared up to 70% of the sequences. The closest relation was found with lily symptomless virus and blueberry scorch virus. The name ligustrum necrotic ringspot virus (LNRSV) is proposed for this virus.
