Acaricidal activity of Punica granatum L. peels extract against Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae)

Abstract: The present work was done to evaluate the sublethal effects of pomegranate peel herbal extracts on some biological parameters of Tetranychus urticae Koch. The estimated LC₁₀, LC₂₀, and LC₅₀ were 1093, 1685 and 3509 ppm, respectively. The results demonstrated that the pre-adult development of both sexes was not significantly influenced by different concentrations while the oviposition period, fecundity, GRR, and R₀ decreased in the treated mites compared to control. Besides, the intrinsic rate of increase (r) showed no difference among concentrations, and it varied from 0.2097 day^-1, for the mites treated with LC₂₀, to 0.2201 day^-1, for the mites treated with distilled water. The examined botanical extract seems to have suitable effects on some biological parameters of T. urticae; especially those related to reproduction. Thus, peel herbal extracts can be contributed to the reduction of the T. urticae population and can be incorporated in its integrated pest management programs.
