The protective material effect in combination with Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki (Btk) against UV for control Pieris brassicae L. (Lep.: Pieridae)
Archives of Phytopathology and Plant Protection 47 (20), 2414-2420
Abstract: The large white Pieris brassicae L. (Lep.: Pieridae) is a pest with extended range of host plants. Biological insecticide Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki (Btk) is one of the most important biological control agents. Photoinactivation seems to be one of the major environment factors affecting the stability of Bti delta-endotoxin. The main factors which affect the disable performance of Bt are ultraviolet (UV), temperature and rainfall washing. This research was accomplished to determine protective effect of protective material on Bt efficiency against UV. With this intention, 12 rows of cabbage, in each row four bushes, were planted in field. Combination of Bt (strain ABTS-351 at recommended concentration in all treatments) with +1% of photo protective materials, Bt var. kurstaki (500 ppm) alone and distilled water and Tween-80 was sprayed on first row's bushes and second row's bushes, respectively. The control was sprayed with sterile distilled water, experiment was repeated three times. Mortality was recorded for 24-96 h after spraying. Data was analysed by SPSS program. According to the result, the percentage of mortality after 24 h was, respectively, 37.5, 32.5, 30, 27.5, 27.5, 22.5, 20, 15, 15, 17.5, 10 and 7.5%, after 48 h was, respectively, 55, 55, 52.5, 50, 45, 37.5, 32.5, 30, 55, 32.5 12.5 and 7.5%, after 72 h was, respectively, 55, 60, 57.5, 57.5, 47.5, 45, 42.5, 47.5, 70, 40, 15 and 7.5% after 96 h was, respectively, 65, 80, 70, 70, 52.5, 50, 45, 50, 80, 42.5, 22.5 and 7.5%. (On the other hand, methyl green, congo red, starch and henna had significantly more protective effect than the other. Starch and henna are recommended as it is economical.
