Cellulolytic enzyme production by Rhizoctonia bataticola
Archives of Phytopathology and Plant Protection 31 (5), 415-421
Abstract: Rhizoctonia batatkola hydrolysed the carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC) medium to reducing sugars and degraded filter papers suggesting that the rot-causing organism was able to synthesize ß-1,4-glucan glucano-hydrolase or endo-1,4-glucanase (Cx cellulase) and ß-1,4-glucan cellobiohydrolase or exo-ß-1,4-glucanase (CI cellulase) enzymes. The activity of the enzymes was also detected in Rhizoctonia-infected tissues of Solatium tuberosum. Optimal production of the enzymes was at 25°C and pH 5. The implication of the enzymes in rot development is discussed.
