Araecerus fasciculatus (DeGeer, 1775) - (coffee bean weevil)

This beetle is a tropical storage pest which is found in beans of coffee, cacao or nutmeg as well as in other products. Up to 20-30% of the beans of stored coffee may be infested. It is frequently introduced into temperate regions with these commodities but cannot establish there.

The weevil breeds and also pupates inside the stored beans when these are kept under high humidity. The life-cycle lasts around 1-2 months depending on temperature and humidity. Attacked beans are hollow or contain tunnels. The adults are 3-4 mm long.
