[The long-tern effect of control measures with the insect growth regulator Alsystin on the spruce sawfly Pristiphora abietina]
Anzeiger für Schädlingskunde, Pflanzenschutz, Umweltschutz 70 (1), 1-3
Abstract: The insect growth regulator Alsystin was tested on the spruce sawfly Pristipbora abietina by helicopter application. For a period of six years after application, further development of population density and feeding damage had been examined.
In the year of application, there was no damage at all. Nevertheless, the following year 29 resp. 20 sawflies/5 m2 emerged. They all had been in a prolonged diapause and escaped the control. In the second and third year after application, population density was very low due to an extremely high rate of parasitism. But during the next years the sawfly population had constantly increased. Five years after application of Alsystin, large damage could be noted again.
Another area was sprayed with Alsystin a second time in the year after the first application. The effect was temporarily better than after only one application, but also in this area a few years later population density and feeding damage have shown an increasing tendency.
