Ambrosia L. (ragweeds)
The genus contains about 40 species and is native to warmer parts of America. Several species have spread to Europe and Asia. Common members of the genus like Ambrosia artemisiifolia are a problem in agriculture and their pollen can cause allergies in humans.
The species are annual herbs or perennial shrubs. The plants often have divided leaves, hairy stems and small greenish flowers, arranged in spikes. They can grow to a height of several metres.
