Agrotis infusa Boisduval 1835 - (bogong moth)
This moth is native to Australia, where it breeds in the plains of southern Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and eastern South Australia, feeding on a variety of broad‐leafed plants. Pupation takes place in the soil during late winter, and adults emerge in spring. In order to escape the unfavourable climate during the summer, the adult moths migrate to the Australian Alps and aggregate in caves for several months, before returning to their breeding grounds. During their aestivation in the caves, densities of thousands of individuals per square metre have been estimated. However, populations have declined markedly since the 1990s (Green et al., 2021).
