Agriotes sputator (Linnaeus, 1758)
This click beetle species is found in central and southern Europe, as well as in neighbouring regions of Africa and Asia. It has been accidentally introduced into North America in the 1850s and has established in several locations in the north-east. The larvae (wireworms) feed on the roots of a variety of different plants, including crops like potatoes or cereals. In particular seedlings are attacked and damaged.
