Aeneolamia varia (Fabricius, 1787)
This froghopper is found in Central and South America. ranging from the southern U.S. to northern Argentina. It is a pest of sugarcane and grasses. The insects inject damaging toxins into the host plant during feeding and infestations can result in significant losses.
Eggs are laid in cracks in the soil. Under dry conditions, the eggs can undergo a diapause for several months. There are 3-4 generations per year.
