Acanthoscelides macrophthalmus (Schaeffer, 1907)

This bruchid beetle is a seed predator of Leucaena trees like L. leucocephala and is considered a pest where these trees are regarded as useful. It has been also reported to attack pigeon peas in some areas. On the other hand, it is regarded as (and has been introduced as) a biological control agents of L. leucocephala where this tree is considered invasive. See Acanthoscelides macrophthalmus (weed bioagent) for that aspect. It is native to Central America, but is now widespread in Asia, Africa and Australia.
