Betabaculovirus helarmigerae (entomopathogen)

Assigned virus:
Helicoverpa armigera granulovirus (HearGV)

The Helicoverpa armigera granulovirus infects the cotton bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera, but larvae from several other Noctuidae can become infected under laboratory conditions (Hamm, 1982). The virus has a size of 169,794 nt with 179 open reading frames (Harrison & Popham, 2008).

The gypsy moth, Lymantria dispar, is not a host, but the virus can enhance the activity of the gypsy moth nuclear polyhedrosis virus about 10-fold, if both viruses are applied together (Shapiro, 2000 and Webb et al., 2001).
