Marietta Motschulsky, 1863
This genus of chalcid parasitoids is widely distributed and includes around 20 species. Although they have been often reported as primary parasitoids, they are mainly hyperparasitoids of other chalcid parasitoids which parasitise different scale insects and other groups of sucking insects. Some species are also primary parasitoids.
Adults of Marietta are around 1 mm long and have a striking mottled colouration, usually dark or reddish brown on a lighter background. The shape and colour pattern on the antennal scape is often helpful for identification.
Type species: Marietta leopardina
