Hyalomma lusitanicum Koch, 1844
This tick is found in the western Mediterranean region and is common in Spain, Portugal and Morocco. It is a possible vector of Mediterranean Bovine Theileriosis. While it bites humans and domestic animals it has been reported more commonly on wild ungulates like red deer. Immature stages parasitise smaller mammals like rabbits. The morphology of H. lusitanicum is similar to that of Hyalomma marginatum, but there are clear differences in the host range, behaviour, ecology and seasonal abundance of both species (Valcárcel, 2020).
