Cydia strobilella (Linnaeus, 1758) - (spruce seed moth)
The moth attacks the cones of spruce trees in Europe and Asia. North American populations are now referred to as Cydia youngana. In Europe, C. strobilella can be serious pest of spruce seed orchards, where infestations of cones may reach 80-90%. Females lay their eggs into spruce flowers, and the larvae feed on the developing cones until adult emergence.
