Anastatus japonicus (parasitoid) Ashmead, 1904

This tiny wasp is an egg parasitoid of various Lepidoptera and Hemiptera, including the gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar) and several stink bugs. It is widely distributed in the northern hemisphere.

A. japonicus has been released (as Anastatus disparis) in large numbers in north-eastern North America, as part of classical biological control programs against the gypsy moth. Females cannot fly and dispersal is therefore slow, usually less than 100 m per year. They can jump and could be carried by the wind during jumping. There is typically only one generation per year.
