Achroia grisella (Fabricius, 1794) - (lesser wax moth)
A. grisella is a widespread pest of bee hives and can also infest some stored products like copra. Weakened honeybee colonies are more likely to become infested. The larvae mine the combs and feed on wax, honey, pollen and honeybee larvae. The adults live for only 2 weeks and do not feed.
The larvae have a life span of about 6 month and reach a length of around 2 cm. The adult moth has a length of 13 mm. Males form small aggregations outside the hive and attract females by ultrasonic songs and pheromones.
