American ginseng root rot caused by Fusarium redolens in China
Plant Disease 105 (9 - 2600)
Abstract: Between 2017 and 2019, American ginseng plants (Panax quinquefolium) grown in Shaanxi Province, China were observed with root rot symptoms. The disease incidence was about 20% in newly reclaimed fields, and more than 70% in continuous planted American ginseng fields. Lesions mainly appeared on the root surface; however, the vascular tissue was not discolored. The fungus Fusarium redolens was isolated from the diseased plants. The identification was based on morphological characteristics and DNA sequence analysis. Pathogenicity of the isolates was demonstrated by inoculation and re-isolation.
