Hyadaphis foeniculi (Passerini, 1860) - (fennel aphid)

This aphid is widely distributed and an important pest of fennel in some regions, infesting the flowers fruits and leaves. It can cause up to 80% yield losses, mainly by the wilting of the infested flowers (e.g. Ramalho et al. 2012). Other species of Apiaceae may be also colonized in the summer. The winter hosts are mainly Lonicera species. H. foeniculi can also transmit plant viruses, e.g. see Jones et al. (2006).

The aptera are between 1.5 and 2.5 mm long. The colour is typically greyish-green, but can vary from light yellowish-green to a dark, almost black, grey.
