Bactrocera carambolae Drew & Hancock, 1994 - (carambola fruit fly)

This species of fruit fly is native to tropical part of eastern Asia and has spread to South America, Surinam (1st record 1975), French Guiana (1st record 1989) and Brazil (1st record 1996). In Brazil it has a quarantine status with its distribution being restricted to a few states like Amapá, Pará and Roraima. Apart from carambola (Averrhoa carambola) it attacks also fruits of papaya, Malpighia and others.
