Cornitermes cumulans (Kollar, 1832)

This species is a mound-building termite, found in parts of South America. The common name is "cupim-de-monte" in Brazil. The mounds can be abundant in grassland and are then often regarded as destructive to agricultural activities. Some studies have investigated the biological control of this termite with entomopathogenic fungi, e.g. see Neves & Alves (2004).
