Venturia canescens (parasitoid) (Gravenhorst, 1829)
This wasp is a solitary koinobiont endoparasitoid that parasitises several pyralid storage moths like Ephestia kuehniella. Typically, a single egg is deposited in the host larva which continues its development for some time while the parasitoid larva develops.
V. canescens can regulate the growth rate of the host, e.g. in order to suppress its defences against the parasitoid. The host is killed when it is mature and has built its cocoon for pupation. The wasp reproduces mainly asexually through parthenogenesis. The adult is around 6 mm long, black with a brown abdomen and brown legs.
