Ascogaster Wesmael, 1835

This genus of wasps is widely distributed and contains around 150 species. These parasitises mainly eggs and larval stages from the family Tortricidae. Several species are important natural enemies of pest insects, like Ascogaster reticulata and A. quadridentatus which are mainly specialised on the smaller tea tortrix (Adoxophyes honmai) and the codling moth (Cydia pomonella) respectively. The genus is characterized, among others, by the wing venation and the structure of the mesopleura.
