Serratia entomophila Grimont et al., 1988 (entomopathogen)
This bacterium causes the amber disease in the New Zealand grass grub, Costelytra giveni, and is commercially available. The soil-borne bacterium appears to be host specific to this beetle and multiplies inside the gut of the larvae. A few days after ingesting the bacterium, the larvae stop feeding, the gut clears and the larvae turn a characteristic amber brown. The larvae die after 1-3 months and release the bacteria again into the soil.
