Aphelenchoides Fischer 1894 - (foliar nematodes)
The genus includes plant parasitic nematodes associated with aboveground plant parts like buds, young leaves and developing seeds. They feed ectoparasitically and endoparasitically and several species are economically important. In total, the genus contains around 100 species, many non-pest species feed on fungi.
The mature nematodes are 0.5 to 1.2 mm long. The genus is characterized by a combination of different morphological characters like a large median bulb (metacorpus) or a slender stylet with small, distinct knobs.
